How to get there

The Emanguzi (Kosi Bay) border post is the closest and best way to get to Mamoli Beach Estate. It is open from 08:00 till 17:00, 7 days a week. The last few killometers between Mamoli Beach Estate and the border must be crossed using a 4×4.

If you do not own a 4×4, you can park your car at the border at a cost of R30 per day at Skelm’s Parking (082 624 6518) which is secure, and we can arrange to collect you from the border.

From Johannesburg we recommend the following route (approximately 7 hours non-stop):

  • Witbank – N12 via East Rand or N4 via Pretoria
  • Hendrina – N11
  • Ermelo – N11
  • Piet Retief – N2
  • Pongola – N2
  • Jozini Dam (Turn left off N2 go over mountain pass and over dam wall)
  • Follow signs that say Kosi Bay until you see border post signs, there is one right turn at a T junction.
  • Past Tembe Elephant Reserve
  • Last town eManguzi – good Spar, banks and fuel

Please make sure you leave enough time to get to the border. The last portion of the journey is on dirt road. There is also a possibility of delays due to road works in the area.

Visas (if you do not have a South African passport)
  • Visas are required for any non-South African passport.
  • Visas can be purchased from the Mozambican embassy in your country.
  • We have recently confirmed (December 2008) that visas can be obtained from the border itself at a cost of R175 per passport, however we recommend getting the visa before hand from one of the Mozambican embassies as the safer option.

Costs and what you’ll need

  • R17 per passport when entering Mozambique.
  • 3rd party insurance (available at the border) about R150 for your car and R80 for your trailer.
  • Temporary import permits for your vehicle and whatever you are towing. R15 each.
  • Vehicle and trailer registration papers (If you’re taking them through the border).
